Tony Forrester


Tony Forrester - Professional Bridge Player

Tony has been playing professionally for nearly 30 years. He is the author of several books and has been bridge columnist of The Daily and Sunday Telegraph for many years, but has recently passed on the weekday column to Tom Townsend.

Tony has been a regular member of the English/British Open Team for many years. He was runner-up in the European Championships in 1987, going on to reach the final of the Bermuda Bowl in the same year. In 1991, in partnership with Andrew Robson, Tony and the British team won the European Championships, and In home internationals Tony is the most capped player. He has also twice won the prestigious Reisinger tournament in the United States, in 1998 and 1999. Tony has also recently broken the record for the highest number of Gold Cup wins, and has also won most other national competition several times.

Panja is a Ph.D. Chemical Engineer from a top Indian institute. He learned bridge in 1977 when he played and won a duplicate match on the very first day! Hi There! I am from Slovenia but now living in London. I started playing bridge in 2009 at the age of 22. The last few years I have been playing mainly in Slovenia and America but have also played a few tournaments in England. I have recently turned professional.

My breakthrough came in 2012 when still a junior I won the Slovenian Pairs Trials (the first woman to do so and only one other has done so since). Also, winner of: Slovenian mixed pairs 2015, 2016, Slovenian mixed teams, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, Slovenian Open teams 2016 and 2017. In England I won the Brighton Midweek Knockout teams in 2014. In 2016 I finished 4th in The North American Mixed teams Championships in Orlando but perhaps my best result came in 2015 when I won bronze in the European open championships in Tromso on an Anglo/Slovene/Zimbabwean women's team. We Knocked out the highly fancied Polish team on the way.

David has won the Gold Cup three times and the Premier League four times. Andrew Robson - Professional Bridge Player

Andrew does not play professionally, but welcomes professional players and their students at the Andrew Robson Bridge Club.

Andrew won the World Junior Championship in 1989, and the Open European Championship in 1991. His list of tournament successes since is too long to list here. He has also twice won the prestigious Reisinger tournament in the United States, in 1998/1999. Andrew's flair and passion for teaching are both effective and infectious, and he often travels the country to lead seminars.

Mark Horton


Mark Horton - Professional Bridge Player

Mark Horton (b1950) has been the Editor of Bridge Magazine since 1995.

Chief Editor to the European Bridge League he works free-lance on all aspects of bridge. His collaboration with Eric Rodwell, The Rodwell Files, has proved to be a best seller on both sides of the Atlantic and his latest book (with Eric Kokish) The Rabbi's Rules charts his long standing professional partnership with Rabbi Leonard Helman.

Winner of many UK National Championships including Crockford's Cup, The Spring Foursomes, the Grandmasters Pairs & the Life Masters Pairs. Mark has won major events all around the world, including the Hoechst, the Dunhill Cup and the Polish Team Championship. He has represented England and Great Britain on several occasions. His infrequent appearances at the table are now mainly overseas, and he is currently looking for a sponsor for the ACBL Nationals.

Mark captained Great Britain's women when they won the Silver Medal in the 1992 Olympiad.

Neil has played at the highest level for many years, enjoying success in winning most tournaments on the domestic scene as well as representing England regularly. Zia Mahmood


Zia Mahmood - Professional Bridge Player

Known affectionately to the entire bridge world simply as Zia, he has been playing professional bridge for over thirty years. He has written or co-written several books, and was bridge correspondent for the Guardian newspaper.

Zia shot to fame in 1981 by leading Pakistan to the Bermuda Bowl final. More recently he has represented the US in international competition and won his first Bermuda Bowl in 2009. Having split his time mostly between New York and London, Zia has won most of the more prestigious tournaments on both sides of the pond. A regular winner at US Nationals as well as various international events, Zia's infamous flair for the game draws crowds of kibitzers wherever he goes.
